1. Stay off fad diets and diet pills: they don’t work. Instead, make lifestyle changes that will be permanent. Fads come and go, just as the fat will on these so called “diets”.
2. Toss out the junk food. This is probably the easiest way to Green Fitness. Make sure you shop on a full stomach the next time you are at the grocery. This will allow you to avoid purchasing not-so-earth-friendly junk foods.
3. Make snack time healthy as well. Don’t run to the vending machines at work. Instead stop at the supermarket on the way in and pick up some fruits. My favorite quick and easy snacks to have at work are bananas.
4. All carbs are not created equal. Make sure most your carbs come in the form of fruits. Contrary to popular belief these are mans’ “all natural food”. Stick with them and they will be good to you.
5. Drop the caffeine quickly. This is a drug and a highly addicting one as well. My wife struggles to this day with trying to stop the pop! Drink water: it will save your life.
6. Drop the fats! Dressings, oils and other fats should be avoided. For green fitness make your diet consist of close to 10 percent fats. Fats are one of the leading causes of disease in this country. Even the so called good fats should be avoided. Stick to nuts and seeds in their natural form.
7. Water is not your enemy! Drink lots of it, keep yourself hydrated.
8. Breathe! Plain and simple- when exercising, breath correctly. Nice deep breaths help keep your cells healthy.
9. Make vegetables at least four to six percent of your daily diet.
10. Ride a bike. Great for the environment as well as the whole body. Biking is also nice and easy on the joints.
11. Make friends with people who are into eating healthy and into green fitness. This allows you to follow their lead and form good habits for yourself.
12. Find fruits that you enjoy most. Watermelon is my staple food. I enjoy it tremendously and it really makes eating raw enjoyable and a lot easier. Don’t’ be afraid to eat the same fruits everyday. After a while start expanding and trying new fruits. You will notice these new fruits will start to grow on you and you will find them really enjoyable.
13. Take your fruits on the go. At work or on the run they are easy and convenient. Best of all, no prep time for most fruits.
14. When dining out pick establishments that offer fruits and salads. Bob Evans in Ohio is a good choice as they provide at least a fruit plate.
15. Don’t delve into the idea that you need to cheat. Most fad diets allow you to cheat. As the say goes “cheaters never prosper”. Fruits and veggies are your- friend stick with them and you are sure to win.
16. Get rest! Every person is different- your sleep requirements are also unique. Just ensure when you get up in the morning you feel energized and ready to take on the world.
17. Swim, swim and swim some more. This is an endurance and fat blasting activity. This is an awesome display of green fitness that can truly be enjoyable.
18. Find a green fitness partner. When you are down they bring you up. When they are down, you bring them up. This makes getting in your exercise that much easier.
19. Sprint! Sprinting is my recommendation. This is a highly intense active that is a great muscle builder. Do sprints on a hill, on flat ground or add some resistance with bands or weights. Do short sprints with breaks in between 60 to 120 seconds and blast the fat away.
20. Use dynamic stretching. Arm swings forward and backward, side bends over and back, jumping jacks and walking lunges are examples of dynamic stretching. These are particularly useful, as they prepare you for the activity you are going to perform.
21. Train hard. Never quit. When the going gets tough, get tougher. Train at least 3 times a week to really stimulate growth hormones.
22. Make bodyweight exercises your friend. Bodyweight exercises are a green fitness experts’ favorite. These build muscle, strength and muscle endurance. Start with the basics, as depicted here: Awesome Basic Bodyweight Exercises for Green Fitness.
23. Make changes over time. Don’t try to quit bad and old habits cold turkey. Unhealthy foods are an addiction that take time and care to break. Try to start out with fruits in the morning and eat lots of them. Don’t be scared of fruits- they are mans best friend.
24. Never give up! We all make mistakes, so what if you have a few bad days? Move forward don’t dwell on the past!
25. Make green fitness your life. Don’t get caught up in the hype that is out there in the diet and fitness world. It’s a multi-billion dollar industry designed for their profit, not for your health. Eat, drink and live green. Love the earth, love yourself and take care of your temple. It’s the only body your going to have, so make the best of it.
