I recently came across a wonderful article on Vancouver2010.com showing that “green fitness” is the way of the future.
The article really grabbed my attention because it mentions that the Hudson Bay Company design team was able to develop a clothing line that was earth friendly and that meshed well with the athletes. The article states “the Hudson Bay Company design team created clothing that incorporates performance fabrics that provide UV protection, four-way stretch, odor resistance, and wicking and cooling properties for ultimate comfort. This also happens to be the first eco-friendly uniform designed for Team Canada, using fabrics such as bamboo, Cocona™ (fabric made from recycled coconut shells), cotton blends and organic cotton.”
This represents green fitness to the fullest and in my opinion shows that we are indeed moving in the right direction. Now that Olympic athletes are sporting clothing made from the earth, I feel we will excel at a much faster pace into the green movement.
I truly enjoyed reading this article and knowing that the athletes requested not only that the design be fashionable but comfortable and breathable in the high temperatures of Beijing. This is something the Hudson Bay Company was able to accomplish using an earth-friendly approach.
This is an awesome step forward in the green movement as more and more athletic apparel becomes earth-friendly, green fitness becomes easier and easier to achieve.
