3543629869 d2a5602ba7 New Mountain Bike for Green Fitness

As I stated, I would be following my twit up with a post about the new I purchased to ride back and forth to work.  I searched the web up and down for the perfect bike at the right price.  I landed on the Kona Blast and boy am I ever happy with this purchase.

So far I have put just a little over 70 miles on the bike.  In that time I have managed to get one flat tire on my ride home.  The nail was so big it almost punched through the rim.  I wasn’t far from home so  I just threw it on my back and started packing it home.  The awesome thing was someone from my church drove by and picked me up.  I threw the bike in the back of the truck and got home safe and sound.

I then took the bike into the basement and attempted to patch the hole with the patch kit I had purchased.  I managed to get the tube back in and pumped it up.  Unfortunately, it did not hold up and I was forced to go to bike shop and purchase new tires.  I now have a spare in my pack because its much easier just to put a new tire on.

The bike is a smooth ride and for the price it can’t be beat.  I found it on craigslist and managed to get it for $300 out the door.  The bike even has disc brakes which at this price is a steal.  On my downhill rides with the tires I have managed to get it up to 29 mph.  I have been trying to break the 30 mile per hour mark before I go to some road worth tires.  I will be purchasing a separate set of rims and tires in the future so I can use it on and off trails.

As I have stated in my previous post there is nothing like biking for .  First and foremost you are giving back to mother earth.  Second you are giving back to yourself in a few ways.  For example you are getting a good workout doing something you usually have to do anyway;  in my case it is getting to work.  Second, you are not stuck inside a car and are out in the open air soaking up the rays of the Sun giving you that much needed vitamin D.

If any of the readers would like to post pictures of their bikes that would be great.  Just put the link in the comment and I will get them up in post with a link to your picture and your name.

  1. I’ve been biking to work (7.5 miles) every day since the last days of April. It’s great and I enjoy it most of the time.
It was just less fun the other day when I had to face a 18mph headwind on my way back!

  2. Yeah I am only hitting 4 mile one way to work. I am thinking of trying an alternate route to make it a little more of a challenge. It would not be fine with 18 mph head wind that is for sure. My ride to work is pretty good one big hill to climb and the rest is downhill. The ride home is a little more challenging as it is a gradual incline and then one big downhill. Hey if you get a chance post some pics of your bike and I will get them up.

  3. I a mountain bike enthusiast myself and I regularly do a 4mile
route everyday. We have the same goal buddy, to break 30 mile mark.
    It’s achievable.

  4. I’m sure you can get through 30 mph – you just need to find a steeper hill!

You got a good deal on that bike by the way. If you ever want to capture your rides on film consider getting a helmet cam.
